Pleasant Hill is located in the central East Bay, Contra Costa County. Incorporated in 1961, the area started developing in the 1920s. It didn’t have an official downtown or a main street for a long period of time until the city started developing a plan to redevelop the area along the intersection of Monument and Contra Costa Boulevard in 1991. In July 2000 Downtown Pleasant Hill finally opened its doors, which is now the city’s hub for shopping, dining, socializing, and entertainment.
Tucked between Concord and Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill’s landscape consists of rolling hills, valleys, and undisturbed wilderness full of oak and a variety of trees. Whether the locals choose to bask in the beauty nature has it surrounded by, enjoy the laid-back suburban lifestyle or lead an active life with all the amenities Downtown Pleasant Hill and its neighboring cities have to offer, one can live the best of many different worlds in this city.
