Orinda is one of the three cities that comprise Lamorinda, along with Lafayette and Moraga. Located 17.4 miles from the San Francisco Bay Area, it is just east of The City of Berkeley and home to many of the affluent families in Contra Costa County and its neighboring cities. Voted by Forbes as the second friendliest town in America, Orinda’s rustic, “old town” feel, close-knit community, and outstanding school system makes it one of the most sought-after cities by the most affluent in northern California.
Incorporated in July 1, 1985, the completion of the Caldecott Tunnel surged its population growth due to its accessibility to the west (Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco). Surrounded by hills and valleys, homes are automatically provided nature’s breath-taking backdrop view all-year round. Its natural parks and trails attract hikers and nature lovers. It borders Tilden Regional Park http://www.ebparks.org/parks/tilden , one of the district’s oldest parks. Known as the “jewel of the system”, it has provided happy memories to children and adults with its carousel ride, picnic and swim at Lake Anza, park tours with the Steam Train, and a peaceful meditation or stroll through the Botanical Garden.
Just like Lafayette and Orinda, Orinda has an amazing network of volunteers who support numerous events that constantly bring the three Lamorinda communities together. From its weekly Farmer’s Market, annual celebration of Earth Day full of live concerts, festivities, and parades, Tri-City Dances for the youth, Motorama parade of muscle and sports cars and motorcycles on Father’s Day, to holiday parades and community parties, Moraga never runs out of community activities to bring its neighboring cities, Lafayette and Orinda, together. Orinda belongs to the Orinda Union School District (elementary and middle) and Acalanes Union School District (high school). The school districts offer top-notch programs, with Miramonte High School ranking 26th statewide and in the top 200 high schools all across the nation.
